The Key

by Amelia Leonards

Who holds the Key? To life, death, wisdom, fate? Is the Key an idea, an intangible pearl of knowledge glistening in the depths of fathomless ether? Or is it a literal object, something so small and simple that you wouldn’t give it a second glance?  Maybe it’s both, an idea bound within an object, or an object given form by an idea – an idea guarded by flashing eyes, snow bright wings, and gleaming talons.

Owls are one of the few creatures that travel between our world and other realms.  As such, the wisdom they share is equal parts truth and illusion, so be wary of the keys they offer.

Just like the owls I painted last year, this piece looks amazing in a gold frame, BUT will be sold and shipped in a white mat.  Why?  Two reasons: A- maybe our frame tastes are WILDLY different, and you’d like to pick your own, and B- the owls have an easier time flying to you without glass.  Glass makes them nervous.
