Stop carrying the weight of the world
by Dianita
In the past months I realized I’ve carried so much for so long. It’s like wanting to be everything for everyone and forgetting about being something for myself. It’s tiring and it takes a toll on my well-being.
When I started this painting, everything was in place, everything was still and in order. But then, when I let go of “what it should be” immediately chaos ensued. I started thinking of when I was younger, sitting outside with my Dad in a weekday very late at night, waiting for meteor showers. We had to forget about everything and just look to the sky and wait for the meteors to show. And as years went on, I wasn’t looking at the sky anymore because life happened, things changed. And out of the chaos where I felt I was losing myself, I tried to be there for everyone else.
You might know what was like.
I think I’m noticing more, but it’s still hard to let go! Once I let go of fear and worries, marvelous things happen. The chaos is a weird, sometimes comfortable place to be in. I’ve come to learn that letting go of the weight of the world doesn’t mean that the world stops existing. The world keeps turning round and round, it never stops. Certainly not for me. And within the chaos, I keep finding amazing new experiences and little secrets of the universe I would’ve missed if I didn’t stop holding on and standing still.
For this painting, I think I held the hand of my younger self and did something messy. I used my favorite teal color, and tons of shooting stars! And space, because I love space and stars, and everything moves while the world is released from the hands and keeps existing. While the universe opens its magic to my eyes.
One night, I was feeling specially well. I looked at the sky, and there it was… a shooting star. I think there was some magic waiting for me to move.
