Preening

by Scott Fischer

Preening was created in a multi layered process. Working on translucent Duralar, the first stage was a background texture applied with a dip pen and FW acrylic ink. Once that is established, a dry brush technique is used to develop the figure. When the figure is there, the duralar is flipped over and the shapes are blocked in with enamel paint, and attacked with sandpaper to create texture. When we flip the Duralar back over we can still see that texture through the translucent surface, ghosted out. Then the final detail work starts with glazing FW ink over the surface and oilpaint is brought out for the final polish.

See video of the process at Scott’s Instagram: Scott Insta

The painting is 8X10 and ships in the vintage frame shown.
