Phoenix

by Kelly McKernan

phoe·nix
noun
  1. (in classical mythology) a unique bird that lived for five or six centuries in the Arabian desert, after this time burning itself on a funeral pyre and rising from the ashes with renewed youth to live through another cycle.

“Phoenix” was in part inspired by the current devastating Southern California fires that are currently affecting Kelly’s family as well as a long-time friend whose home as just consumed on December 5th (their GoFundMe is here).

The painting measures 4″ x 8″ and was created with watercolor on paper mounted to cradled wood panel. The raw wood sides have been painted to match the painting and measures 1.5″ deep. The painting will arrive varnished and ready to hang.
