Personal Scapegoat

by Carisa Swenson

Many cultures have rites for purifying a person, or even an entire village through the transference of “impurities” to an object or animal—which was then released or sacrificed.

Inside this scapegoat are five compartments each containing a scroll; take them out and write down what you wish to rid yourself of then tuck them back into the compartments. Your scapegoat will keep what you give him so you can make room for better things.

Created with wood, epoxy clay, paper clay, metal, textile, and acrylic paints.
