Oshun (Dance of the Summoner III)

by Odera Igbokwe

“Oshun, Goddess of the River, Spinner of Gold, and Sewer of the body.

You cut your own flesh to nourish us with your beauty.

Pour onto us the sweet waters of fertility. “

/Wemile Oshun, Oshun dede alawede/

Oshun (Dance of the Summoner III)

Acrylic on board.

5 x 7 (fit to 8×10 matte)

This portrait is part of my fantasy world exploration that I’ve been doing for my patreon, Melanin Mythologies.

I’ve been reimagining classic RPG archetypes (Knight, Mage, Archer, etc), which has lead to envisioning the Summons (or Final Fantasy-esque Espers/Eidolons/Aeons) of this world.

Next in the series we have a portrait inspired by Oshun, the Nigerian Orisha of the rivers, love, and beauty.

Super excited to continue exploring the pantheon of nigerian-diasporic mythologies and how they can be transformed and alchemized into my own personal grimoire~!
