Rabbit’s Journey

by Julia Lundman

2023 is the Year of the Water Rabbit. This is also the year of the green comet, which has not been seen in our skies for 50,000 years. When I thought about the past few years after the devastating covid pandemic entered our lives, I couldn’t help but think about the rabbit, a timid, clever creature who lives in constant danger. Perhaps the comet is a reminder that despite much devastation, strife, and loss, the earth and its inhabitants have continued to be resilient since the comet was last seen.

Size is 11″ x 12″. Acrylic and colored pencil on Stonehenge Legion cream paper. Signed. Like all of my originals, this piece comes mounted on black foam core with a protective cover for shipping. I also wrap the entire piece in waterproof paper inside the packaging for shipping.

Julia Lundman graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago in 1993. Since then, she has worked in animation and games as a commercial artist, first in traditional animation as a background painter, and later as a illustrator for games and books. She has recently taken some time to devote toward development of her personal work, inspired by Victorian fairy painters, the pre-Raphaelites, Brian Froud, Alan Lee, Medieval art, folklore, novels, and the natural world.

Her process starts with sketchbook practice in the early morning hours. If a sketch feels interesting, she develops it into a series of more finished drawings. If the subject still resonates, she paints the image either in oil, acrylic or watercolor.
