Morning After

by Sidharth Chaturvedi

This painting is a revisit of a sketch I made many years ago. At the time, I was doing a lot of very realistic zombies for my day job, really playing up the fleshy, grotesque side- with all the research that went into that. This piece was something of a reaction against what had started to feel like nihilistic work. I wanted to take the same subject and find a more beautiful, poetic side, and I landed on a theme of weariness and rest.

Medium: Oil paint
Surface: Cotton canvas, glued to wood panel

I'm a painter who spent most of my life bouncing between San Francisco and New Delhi, finally settling somewhat in between them in Munich, where I work as an assistant art director at Deep Silver. I spend the rest of my time making art for Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons, and making my own pictures in oils and ink. I think that I should take up some other hobbies, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
