When Huginn Left Muninn
by Stephanie Inagaki
Sometimes the best way to express is through the use of old symbols and mythologies. I usually add my own two cents to the stories to build up my own mythologies. Huginn (Thought) and Muninn (Memory) were Odin’s familiars. It is said that he feared they wouldn’t return or would get separated when he sent them out, as they were an extension of himself.
I utilize dualities in my symbols. For me, crows and ravens have represented love and loyalty. Life and death go hand in hand as one feeds the other like an ouroboros.
In desperation, in hope, in love, and in compassion, I sent out my Huginn and Muninn to try to help, but I lost a part of myself in the process. I also lost my love. But in that process there is always hope for growth and rebirth.
The drawing is 5×7″ and with the frame is 6.25×8.25″. It has museum glass, acid free backing, spacers, and is ready to hang.
