Heartbeats – Goldmine Brook

by Stephen Sengebush

Trying, failing, and trying again to catch sunlight.

For those who follow my work, you’ll notice that Goldmine Brook is one of my favorite spots in Western Massachusetts.  Last spring, I returned to the base of the largest fall and began working up a small plein air painting.  Within minutes, I knew that I needed more time and a much larger canvas to truly do it justice.  I stayed for the next few hours, struggling to capture the fiery mist of the waterfall set against the deep green of the mossy rocks, taking photos along the way.  When I returned home, it took 2 further attempts to capture that moment on the larger canvas seen here.  Each painting is a chance to learn new lessons, to gain a deeper understanding of what it was that draws you to it in the first place.

Heartbeats, Goldmine Brook” is an original oil painting, 24″x36,” oil on stretched, gessoed canvas, and mounted in a 1/4″ black floater frame.
