Equinox

by Amelia Leonards

I am the Spring, unfurling and uncurling in the first faint, shy rays of the new sun.  My wings are a warm breeze, my eyes burn with the glory of flame, and all life rejoices as I fly over barren field and icy tundra.  Do not despair in the long, cold winter- listen for my cry on the chill wind, the faint rustle of my silken feathers, and know that I am whispering to every seed, stooping to gather even the smallest acorn.  I wrap them all in my loving embrace and sing songs of courage, songs of growth.  Life will return yet!

I realized that I’d spent most of my winter complaining about the cold (and I keep moving further north, go figure), so I decided to do something about it.  I don’t know if the longing behind a painting can actually affect the weather, but the days I was working on her just so happened to be the warmest days we’ve had this year so far.  Coincidence?  Or owl magic?

This piece will look phenomenal in a frame, (especially gold, she told me she likes gold), but she will be sold in an ivory mat.  Why?  For the same reasons that the last owl flew to their new owner frameless- A) I would hate to rob you of the joy of picking out a frame, and B) this owl, much like her sister, finds it easier to fly through the postal system without glass.
