“Origin of Iron” by Nina Pommelin

"Origin of Iron" by Nina Pommelin

A wolf was running along a swamp, the swamp rose over the feet of the wolf, iron bars grew up and lumps of steel, on the tracks of the feet of the wolf.

In Finnish foklore the wolf was treated differently than most animals. While it was a creature whose great power was recognized it was also a threat and competition to people. This piece was inspired by a story in which the wolf played a part of the creation and discovery of Iron.

Painted in ink, white poster color and gold medium on 300 g/sqm Saunders Waterford hot press watercolour paper. The painting is unframed.
